Walks around the Culm Valley
Team Selgars · · 1 min read
The short one, about an hour
Down along the river and back up through the fields. Flat, doable in ordinary shoes, and the one to take a group on before dinner. In spring the hedgerows along it are genuinely remarkable.
The pub walk, about two hours
Out across the fields, into the village, and back. The point is the middle. Take it slowly, and go in a group small enough to fit round one table when you arrive.
The half day
Up onto the higher ground for the view back across the valley. Three to four hours with stops, and worth doing on a clear day rather than a convenient one. Boots, and a waterproof regardless of the forecast.
Practicalities
Devon lanes have no pavements and drivers do not expect walkers, so wear something visible in low light. Gates get left as you find them. And mobile signal drops out in the valley bottom, so agree a meeting point rather than relying on messaging.
