Our 5th Coliving Season will begin on 12th October 2026 and run through to  25th April 2027!

What is 'Life at Selgars' all about?

How did it all start?

We (Anton & Morgane) met in 2017 in our living room. We were both living at K9 Coliving, a self-run residential community in Stockholm Sweden. In March 2020 I (Mo)  joined Anton who had moved back the year before, in London.
I did not love it there. I felt very lonely after leaving her 48 housemates behind. Even adopting a giant dog (Zuko) didnt seem to fully solve the issue.
We searched for ways to re-create a sense of community, first in our building, then attempting to rent larger houses to move in with friends and eventually starting to look to the countryside for even larger venues.
Eventually, a strange mix of serendipity and determination brought us to Selgars Mill.

We moved in December 29th 2022 and season one of Life at Selgars Coliving started on January 1st 2023.
In August 2024 they got married in their forever home, Selgars. And in September 2025, the feline twins (Aurora & Novak) joined the family.

What is the ethos?

Life at Selgars is not a hotel, hostel or an Airbnb. We share more than just a roof. We share meals, thoughts, challenges, ideas, skills and memories.

There is no Community Manager at Life at Selgars.

You are of course welcomed and shown around and there are some guidelines and ground rules but everything else is in your hands. See this as a wonderful opportunity to try what you never dared to do. We offer you a canvas and a panel of open-minded people ready to cheer you on. It wont always be easy, and we ask you to be patient. With yourself and others. Because it will be very rewarding.

Gentle reminder: while we have been doing this for years, we do not have all the answers. Or perhaps not always the answers you wished to hear. Living with others can be challenging at times, and decision-making is a longer process than when we live on our own. Patience, open-mindedness, maturity and playfulness are great tools for an exciting experience.

What is the set up?

We have 10 bedrooms available with a maximum capacity of 20 people. Most of our rooms are located in the main building, The Mill, and have shared bathrooms.

We have 2 bedrooms in a separate lodge (the mill lodge) with a living and kitchen space and another one in what we call the annex with its own kitchen and living space as well.

All of the buildings are very close to each other (estimated commute: 30 seconds).

No matter where you sleep, you are welcome to use all the shared spaces:

- our coworking and living space,
- our open plan kitchen,

- our cozy nooks,

- our art corner,

- our library & music room,

- our beautiful outdoor and veg garden
- our barn that works as a playroom, dance floor and gym
- our sauna and cold dip

Minimum Stay

High turn over is harmful for the sense community. We ask you to consider staying as long as you can. We have minimum stay of 2 weeks but we guarantee you, that is not enough.

You are welcome to stay the whole season, which will make you feel life part of the family.

You are very welcome to book for 2 weeks and extend your stay if there are availabilities.

You are also very welcome to leave and come back throughout the season.

We offer 10% discount to our alumni.

Work & Wifi

We have desks in every bedroom.

Our ground floor is dedicated to deep work while our first floor has a more social coworking corner.

There is an extra small working space on the top floor for more private work.
We have working chairs across the different spaces and a couple of large monitor screens we are happy to lend.

On top of fiber broadband wifi, we also installed Satelite Starlink in the barn and the workshop if needed.

Need a change of scenery? there are 2 cafes walking/cycling distance with free wifi and yummy treats.

Food

Nothing is mandatory, but we highly encourage shared dinners every night. We have a simple weekly rota with some potlucks and leftover nights on weekends.

We are trying to be mindful of our consumption for our health and the planet. We find it easier to do that together!Selgars provides the basics, such as vegetable oil, salt, tea, and coffee.

If you do not drive, you can order everything else online and have it delivered weekly. If you do drive, there is a small COOP shop 5 minutes away and a large Tesco 10 minutes away.

Some of us order weekly veggie boxes from a local farm.

Please note that we are primarily vegetarians*. We also minimize our consumption of alcohol. We feel these choices can have a positive impact on your health and the environment, and we ask that you make sure you are okay with that before applying.

*that means that while we do not tell you what you should eat or not, we ask everyone joining the shared rota to cook only vegetarian food and for your own meals, to be respectful in cleaning thoroughly after yourself if you are cooking meat or fish.

What do we do together?

Anything we want! We will take turns to cook for each other, we will go on long walks and enjoy the Devon countryside. We will hang by the fireplace and work on fun hands on projects on the land. We will improve the space around us. We will connect with locals and support local projects. We will watch movies and play board games. We will create art together, we will talk about life, wellbeing, and how we can transform  Selgars in the months and years to come.

Of course, the activities that we do together will depend on who is in the house. There are so many things we can do: movie nights, book club, accountability club, game nights, yoga, morning walks, and language courses and many surprises… it only takes one person to lead and that could be you!

What you can take for granted is:

- Yummy shared dinners

- Dog & cat love (if needed)

Exploring the surroundings together and even day trips to the beach

- some rain and cold weather. Swedes say "There is no bad weather, only bad clothing". Pack appropriately. We will do ugly sweater competitions and start fires together.

- Also, some gorgeous days.

- Weekly cleaning by Jody and her amazing crew.

- Some freeloaders (we host spiders, squirrels, birds, and occasional sheep, cats and deer on the property).

Getting Around

Selgars Mill is 2.5 miles from Tiverton Parkway train station in Mid-Devon. From there you can book a taxi transfer (7 mins) or cycle in 18 min. We have a lost of taxi companies here

By train, Tiverton Parkway is 14 minutes from Exeter, 45 minutes from Bristol and 2 hours from London Paddington. The address is ‍Selgars Mill, Cullompton, Devon, EX15 3DA.

We recommend bringing your bike and using it to get to local shops, cafes and the train station. We do have our own bikes we are happy to share when we do not use them.

Dogs

Selgars is a pet-friendly place. Zuko, our Bernese Mountain dog is the head of Security though so your pet will need to pass his lick & sniff test.
