How many people can you host?

We have 12 bedrooms across all of our buildings which can sleep up to 28 people. You can see floor plans here. We have x10 large emperor bell tents that can host up to 6 single beds inside and 3 double beds. The emperor tents are 3m high, 6m long and 4m wide. We also plan to build more sleeper cabins and ensuite single bedrooms and have plenty of partner hotels just a short drive away. To view a table and photos of all the rooms please view this link.

We are also in the process of renovating our 21m x 14m event barn which will be able to host groups of up to 150 seating and 200 standing for nature conferences, community gatherings and weddings. We also can help you rent an event tent through our trusted supplier World Inspired Tents. The Mill House can host groups of up to 50 people for workshops and team retreats. What will the barn look like?

The first phase of the barn renovation will be complete at the end of Feb 2023. We are replacing the south facing facade with large windows to allow as much light into the space as possible. We are levelling and polishing the concrete floor. We are adding brick walls, insulation and interior timbre cladding. We also plan to purchase a sound system and professional dance floor mats that can be rented and setup if required. The barn will become a cosy and beautiful nature filled multi-purpose space, similar to our London space House of Transformation. There will be a bar area, folding trestle tables, moveable plants and sofas, and plenty of storage space as well as a sheltered spaces to setup a catering kitchen at the back. Overall we will have over 200 square meters of useable event space to play with. In the colder months we will use space heaters and curtains to keep the heat in.

Can we bring our own food?

Selgars is first and foremost a self-catering venue. We don't employ chefs or a catering team on site but we do have a network of wonderful chefs and catering organisations that you can hire on demand such as Co-exist community kitchen in Bristol.

We also strongly encourage a vegetarian ethos and all of our catering partners specialise in cooking vegetarian menus. If having meat and fish is a deal breaker then we want to work with you to make sure that the fish and meat is sourced in the most ethical and sustainable way possible. We don't want to enforce hard rules on our guests but we do want to have a heart to heart conversation with you about whether meat and fish is a necessary choice for your event and how we can source it in the best way. If you decide to opt for self-catered we can also help you source great ingredients from local producers and retailers. We also grow some greens, vegetables and tomatoes on site in our edible garden.

What About Rubbish & Waste?

We are a zero to landfill site. We separate food waste (cooked and raw), non recyclable waste, dry recyclables (plastic, paper, cardboard, cans) and glass.
Bins are provided for each type of waste inside each property. If your bins become full, they can be emptied into the correct large bins under kitchen stairs.

Rinse or wash food packaging before putting it in the recycling bin.
Leftover food can be taken to Uffculme Community Fridge - open 9.30-11am every weekday morning.

Please do not put food waste (cooked or raw) into the compost bins by the veg garden.

We also try to encourage you to treat Selgars as an extension of your home and to leave each space in the same condition as you found it. We will have cleaners wash the sheets and do the deep clean, but would appreciate if guests were mindful and respectful as well.

Can I bring my bike and dog?

Yes you can. We love dogs and welcome your furry friends with open arms. We also have plenty of space for you to store your bikes and encourage our guests to travel by bike and rail as much as possible. We are on National Cycle Route 3. Tiverton Parkway mainline train station is a 12 minute cycle ride away. The route connects to the Grand Western Canal which is a cycle path and can be taken into Tiverton. Bikes can be hired from Abbotswood Cycle Hire at The Globe Inn, Sampford Peverall, on the canal.

Can you arrange transport for us?

The Selgars Mill Estate is only a short 5 min drive, a 10 min bike ride or a half hour walk from Tiverton Parkway train station.  You can reach Tiverton Parkway by train from London Paddington in 2 hours and Bristol Temple Meads in 44 min. We have good relationship with local taxi drivers and can arrange pickups for you and your guests.

What about public liability insurance for larger events?

We have full event insurance with £10M public liability. However, in our contract with you we do emphasise the importance of the hirer taking full responsibility for what happens in terms of their guest's behaviour. We are responsible for the safety of the buildings and spaces but not for the actions of individuals who come to your event. For larger events a security deposit charge of £1,000 will also be required on top of the venue hire fee in case of any damage done to the property. This will be repaid in full after the event.

What about car parking & extra camping?

We have two onsite car parking areas which can take up to 20 vehicles. If more cars are needed then we can rent a neighbouring field for a fee of £200/day. This field can also be used for extra camping space and camping.
