Venue hire
How far from London is far enough?

Under an hour is not away
Venues in the Home Counties are convenient and people treat them as an extension of the working week. Someone will pop back for a meeting. The event never fully starts.
Two hours seems to be the threshold
Far enough that nobody is nipping back, close enough that a train journey is not a whole day and the travel budget stays sane. Mid-Devon sits almost exactly here on the Paddington line, which is the main reason we are viable at all.
Beyond three hours the maths changes
You are now spending a day of the event on travel and materially more money. That is worth it for a week, rarely for two nights.
Measure from your people, not from the centre
A team spread across Manchester, Bristol and Berlin has a different centre of gravity than a London office. Work out the total journey time across everyone before deciding what is convenient. For a single day in the city itself, our London space on Kingsland Road is the other half of the answer.
