Venue hire
How to get the most out of a venue site visit
Team Selgars · · 1 min read
Go at the time of year you are booking
A venue in June tells you almost nothing about the same venue in January. If you cannot visit in season, ask for photographs taken in the month you are booking — not the marketing set.
Walk the routes people will walk
From the furthest bedroom to the main room. From the parking to the door with a bag. From the barn to the nearest bathroom in the dark. These walks tell you more than the rooms do.
Sit down in the main space
Actually sit. Is the light good? Can you hear someone at the other end? Where would twenty people put their coats? Standing in a doorway looking at a room is not the same as being in it.
Ask the awkward things in person
What goes wrong here most often? What do groups complain about? Which of your spaces do people like least? An owner who answers these honestly is one you can work with.
