A rain plan that preserves the purpose of your retreat

Identify what the outdoor session is for

If a walk is intended to help pairs talk, an indoor paired conversation may preserve its purpose. If the activity depends on a particular landscape or qualified provider, it may need postponing instead. Decide that distinction while planning. Avoid substituting another demanding workshop for every cancelled outdoor hour; weather should not quietly double the amount of seated work.

Make the decision early enough to help

Agree who checks conditions and when the group will hear the plan. Confirm the indoor room, furniture and equipment you would need, including whether another activity is already using them. Tell participants what clothing to bring while making clear that kit does not make every condition suitable. A fallback works best when it is part of the programme, rather than something invented over breakfast.

Plan your next step

For the wider context, read our planning guide. If you are working through the next practical detail, a retreat feedback form people will finish follows naturally from this.

You can also explore retreat hosting at Selgars. Bring the details of your group or stay to the conversation so we can discuss what fits, rather than assuming every arrangement is included.
