Retreats
What a team retreat actually costs in the UK

The four lines
Venue and accommodation, food, travel, and facilitation. For most UK retreats, venue plus food is around sixty per cent, travel twenty to thirty, and facilitation whatever is left — which is why so many retreats end up self-facilitated.
Where people underestimate
Travel, almost always. A venue that is cheaper per night but two hours further from where your team lives can cost more overall once you add the fares and the lost day. Work it out properly rather than assuming.
And the extras: transfers, activity fees, the wine, the taxi someone needs at six in the morning.
Where the money goes further
Off-season dates. Midweek. Exclusive use of a smaller venue rather than part of a larger one — the sense of having the place to yourselves is worth more than an extra star. Self-catering one night. Two nights done properly instead of three done thinly.
The false economy
Cutting the food. It is the thing people experience nine times over three days and the first thing they mention afterwards. If you have to trim, trim a night, not the kitchen.
